Mission statement
Snow is dedicated to Unix and Open Source software. For these fields Snow wants to be the leading competence center in The Netherlands with an emphasis on technology and quality. Snow creates a bridge between customers and consultants. Customers can expect a clear, business-like approach to their practical needs. Consultants will find an informal atmosphere where technical expertise is considered a virtue.

Beginnings
Joost Helberg and Hans Oey are Unix enthusiasts since the early 1980-ies and composed their first Unix distribution (based on Linux, GNU and X software) called Snow in March 1992. From the onset they used pristine sources and after installation the entire system could easily be recompiled with one single script, aptly called ‘doit'. Many of its system concepts can later on be found in other Linux distributions.

Not until October 1997 they founded Snow B.V. as a company. Immediately four top Unix consultants joined them to enjoy working in an all Unix ambiance. Since then many more joined the ranks. Currently (2010) Snow has circa 150 employees, led by CEO Chris Hendriks. The Unix specialists are organized in small teams to ensure personal attention.

Focuses
Snow works for Dutch top 200 companies. Technical oriented sites like internet providers and scientific institutions are customers of Snow too. These enterprises look for no-nonsense and highly qualified assistance in managing their IT infrastructures and corporate applications. They are supported by Snow in their use and deployment of Unix, networking, security, storage and databases for mission critical purposes. Snow delivers consultancy, turn-key solutions and medium to long term outsourcing of IT expertise to fulfil the high standards we're able to set. Current projects are i.a. in the area of datacenter integration after merger and high performance-high availability clustering.
